Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
State + Sound respects your privacy and takes the protection of your personal information seriously.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it may be used and shared, how long we keep it and the rights you have in relation to your personal data.
State + Sound is operated by TAYTULA BURKE a sole trader trading as State + Sound. For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller.
For any questions about this policy or your personal information, contact hello@stateandsound.co.uk
1. What information I collect
The information collected depends on how you interact with State + Sound and which services you use.
This may include:
Contact information
Your name, email address, telephone number and other contact information you choose to provide.
Booking information
Details of appointments, services and experiences you book, including appointment dates, times and booking history.
Payment and transaction information
Information relating to purchases and payments. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. State + Sound does not receive or store your full payment card details.
Information provided for a service
Depending on the service you book, I may collect information required to prepare for or appropriately deliver that service.
For numerology services, this may include your full name at birth and date of birth.
For certain breathwork sessions, you may be asked to confirm whether any listed contraindications apply to you. You will not normally be asked to provide detailed medical information through the booking form.
Communications
Information you provide when you contact State + Sound by email, through the website, during the booking process or through other correspondence.
Marketing information
Your email address and marketing preferences if you choose to join the State + Sound mailing list.
Website information
Technical information such as your IP address, browser, device information and information about how you use the website may be collected through cookies and similar technologies.
2. How I use your information
Your information may be used to:
manage bookings and appointments;
provide services, products and experiences you have requested;
prepare for sessions where advance information is required;
communicate with you about your booking, purchase or enquiry;
process payments;
provide customer support;
maintain appropriate business and financial records;
operate and improve the State + Sound website and services;
protect the security of the website and business;
send marketing communications where you have chosen to receive them; and
comply with legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations.
I will not use your information for an unrelated purpose without informing you where required.
3. Lawful bases for using your information
UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for processing personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, State + Sound relies on:
Contract
Where using your information is necessary to provide a service or product you have requested, manage your booking or fulfil an agreement with you.
Consent
Where you have actively agreed to a particular use of your information, such as receiving marketing emails or where explicit consent is required for particular sensitive information.
Legitimate interests
Where it is reasonably necessary to operate, administer, protect or improve State + Sound, provided those interests do not override your rights and interests.
Legal obligation
Where information must be processed or retained to comply with the law, including tax and accounting requirements.
4. Health and other sensitive information
Information about a person's health is classed as special category data under UK data protection law and receives additional protection.
Some breathwork practices have contraindications. Before participating in certain sessions, you may therefore be asked to confirm:
“I confirm that none of the contraindications listed above apply to me.”
You may select Yes or No / I'm unsure.
If you select No / I'm unsure, you will be asked to contact State + Sound before participating so that we can discuss whether the practice is appropriate or whether adjustments may be required. You do not need to provide detailed medical information through the booking form.
Where State + Sound needs to process health information in order to provide a requested service appropriately, the ordinary lawful basis will generally be that the processing is necessary in connection with providing the service, together with explicit consent as the additional condition required for processing special category data where applicable. Explicit consent can be used for health information, but it must be clear, specific and expressly confirmed rather than inferred.
I aim to collect only the information reasonably necessary for this purpose and avoid collecting unnecessary medical history. The ICO requires organisations to limit health information to what is relevant and necessary for the stated purpose.
You may withdraw consent to the processing of health information at any time by contacting State + Sound. This will not affect processing that took place before consent was withdrawn, although it may mean that I am unable to provide a particular service safely or appropriately.
5. Numerology information
If you book a numerology service, you may be asked to provide your full name at birth and date of birth.
This information is used to calculate and prepare your numerology chart and deliver the service you have requested.
It will not be used for unrelated purposes without an appropriate lawful basis.
6. Who your information may be shared with
State + Sound uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the website and deliver services.
These currently include:
Squarespace — website hosting and website functionality.
Acuity Scheduling — appointment scheduling and booking management.
Stripe — secure payment processing.
Kit — email mailing lists and marketing communications.
Zoom — delivery of online appointments and experiences.
These providers may process personal information on behalf of State + Sound or, in some circumstances, act as independent data controllers for aspects of their services.
I only share information reasonably necessary for them to provide the relevant service.
I may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
I do not sell your personal information.
7. International transfers
Some of the technology providers used by State + Sound operate internationally and may process or store personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, appropriate arrangements are used as required by UK data protection law, such as applicable adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.
You can contact me if you would like further information about safeguards relevant to your personal information.
8. Email marketing
If you choose to join the State + Sound mailing list, your information may be stored and processed using Kit.
Marketing may include State + Sound news, journal content, new services, products, experiences, events and offers.
Booking a service does not automatically subscribe you to marketing emails.
Where consent is the basis for marketing, you can withdraw that consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in marketing emails.
Unsubscribing from marketing will not prevent you from receiving essential communications relating to an appointment, purchase or service you have requested.
9. Cookies
The State + Sound website may use cookies and similar technologies.
Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. Others may help understand how the website is used or provide additional functionality.
Where consent is legally required, non-essential cookies will not be placed until you have been given the opportunity to make an appropriate choice.
You can manage your preferences using the cookie controls available on the website.
The ICO requires consent to involve a clear positive action for non-essential cookies and says such cookies should not be placed before the required consent has been obtained.
10. How long I keep your information
I do not keep personal information for longer than reasonably necessary.
How long information is retained depends on what it is and why it was collected.
Booking and client information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the service, maintain appropriate records and deal with any queries or issues arising from it.
Health and contraindication information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the safe and appropriate delivery and administration of the relevant service, and is reviewed with particular care because of its sensitive nature.
Numerology information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to prepare, deliver and administer the requested service.
Financial and transaction records may be retained for the period required to meet applicable tax, accounting and legal obligations.
Marketing information is retained while you remain subscribed or while there is another appropriate reason to retain it. If you unsubscribe, limited information may be retained where necessary to record and respect your preference not to receive further marketing.
Information that is no longer required will be deleted, anonymised or securely disposed of where appropriate.
UK GDPR does not prescribe one universal retention period; organisations must determine and be able to justify periods according to why the information is held and should periodically remove information they no longer need.
11. Keeping your information secure
I take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss or misuse.
Where third-party services are used, I select established providers and use the security and privacy controls available to me.
No internet-based service or electronic storage system can, however, be guaranteed to be completely secure.
12. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you the right to:
request access to personal information held about you;
request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
request deletion of your information in certain circumstances;
request restriction of certain processing;
object to certain uses of your information;
request certain information in a portable format;
withdraw consent where processing relies on consent; and
object to direct marketing at any time.
These rights do not all apply in every circumstance and may depend on the lawful basis for processing.
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to object to direct marketing.
To exercise a data protection right, contact hello@stateandsound.co.uk
I may need to confirm your identity before responding to a request.
13. Complaints
If you have a concern about how State + Sound has handled your personal information, please contact me first so that I have an opportunity to address it.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

14. Third-party websites
The State + Sound website may contain links to websites or services operated by other organisations.
State + Sound is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. You should review their privacy information when using their services.
15. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to State + Sound's services, technology providers, data practices or legal obligations.
The latest version will be published on this website and the date at the top of the policy will be updated.
